Heidi Caillard, a potter in Provence, France, developed a deep fondness for Guinea hens in her garden.  Fascinated by their almost abstract shapes, she began to create them in clay.  Heidi would sit in the garden with her son and paint the guineas, bringing them to life with her artist's eye.  Today the Caillard guineas are quite famous.  Heidi's son Adrien, now a well known potter, continues to create the fanciful birds.
