Minnie Adkins was born in Kentucky in 1934. She began carving at an early age and in 1952 she married Garland Adkins and continued to work, with her husband alongside her. After a long battle with cancer, he passed away in 1997 but Minnie continues to create her art; carvings of possum, horses, pigs, and a variety of other animals. She has been recognized both locally and nationally and has won awards for her work from places like Norton Center for the Arts and Folk Art Society of America. She was given an honorary doctorate degree from Morehead State University in 1988.
